We are all too aware of the problems that face young people today, particularly those being brought up in our poorest communities.

As a nation we have not invested in facilities for young people and as a result, many socialise on the streets and get involved in negative behaviour, rather than in safe and positive environments.

However, things are starting to change. Over the last 2 years, Youth Zones have been commissioned across the North West to support young people and we are now making sure that Preston doesn’t get left behind.

Here at Preston Youth Zone we have a vision for a vibrant youth offer for the City and surrounding districts that will be clearly be linked to the Lancashire Youth Strategy.

Preston Youth Zone will help young people keep active and healthy, whilst encouraging them to be positive and aspirational.

Packed full of every sporting and artistic opportunity you can think of, the Youth Zone will be available to young people aged 8-21 years and 25 for those with a disability. Our aim is to make Preston Youth Zone a fantastic addition to the city, full of staff and volunteers whose sole purpose will be to provide the young people who attend with the information, support and advice they need to go on and become happy, caring and active citizens.

All young people will be welcome to join Preston Youth Zone and we will actively involve young people from all communities, backgrounds and abilities to offer un-paralleled youth provision.

Inclusivity will be our core principle.

If you ask young people what they would like to do in their leisure time, the answers you would get are surprising and incredibly humbling. They consistently ask for just three things; somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.
